about

Wishing jar was prompted by an apology to local Aborigines from the Mayor, at a gathering in Daylesford, Australia in 2003.

lyrics

Wishing jar (Dja Dja Song)

It started in the winter
Covered by a shroud
A host of friendly strangers
With some issues to renounce
Well they all agreed on one thing
Just didn’t know where to start
When the words were spoken
They experienced “one heart”

Reconcilliation in my little town
Meant flying the Koori flag
Beside the whiteman’s one for a week
Then they put it away for another year
Out of sight and out of mind

Dja Dja Warung
Dja Dja Warung
Dja Dja Warung

When I learned of dispossession
Australia’s heritage
So many songs unsung
Because of what we did
I was looking for a picture
Of what we could become
A time where Sorry Business
Was embraced by everyone

Winter stars on windows
Frosting like snow
I want to catch them in my wishing jar
To protect (keep them lacy and whole)
To cool me in the summer
To glisten and to shine
These winter stars of wonder
These wishes of mine

Dja Dja Warung
Dja Dja Warung

Galgal gundidj
Gunangara gundidj
Liarga balug
Munal gundidj

Dja Dja Warung
